TONGA & VAVA’U.

The Kingdom of Tonga is an archipelago of 170 islands with fewer than 50 inhabited. Located in the South Pacific Ocean south east of Fiji. Spread throughout 700,000 sq km the island nation is made up of a total of four main island groups.  Tongatapu (mainland) Eua, Ha’apai and Vava’u. Each of the island groups offers a variety of geographical landscapes, from low lying sandy atolls to steep fertile volcanic islands. Nudging the International Dateline the kingdom is the first country in the world to welcome the dawn of each new day.

 

The island group of Vava’u lies north of all the island groups and is roughly 240km or 150 miles north of Tongatapu. Vava'u offers over 50 islands with only a total population lush tropical landscapes to explore and enjoy, famed for their white sand beaches, coral reefs, crystal clear blue waters that are ideal for sailing, diving, snorkelling, whale watching and game fishing.

 

Climate
Vavau' enjoys a tropical climate with average daily temperatures of 29ºC in January and 24ºC in June. The weather is warm and generally sunny throughout the year. Rainy season is November to April, when the weather is more humid and thunderstorms and cyclones are more frequent. During the winter months, the weather is settled with temperatures ranging from about 23-27ºC

From May to September, southeast trade winds range from 15-25 knots. During the summer months, northeast winds of 10-20 knots are the norm.

 

 

Getting to Tonga & Vava'u

International Flights

Access to Tonga is becoming more and more easy as time progresses in this chamed pacific island group. Direct flights with Pacific Blue, Air New Zealand and Air Pacific now operate flights direct from Australia, New Zealand,  Fiji and Somoa to Tongatapu.

 

Domestic Flights
